URBAN FOREST: The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea takes pride in and is very protective of its world-renowned urban forest, natural parklands, and roadside greenbelts. An entire section of our Municipal Code is devoted to the protection of the urban forest. Carmel-by-the-Sea was the first community in California to employ a full-time professional Forester. To protect and enhance the urban forest setting of the village, a permit is required for the pruning or removal of any tree in the public right-of-way, and only tree contractors licensed with the City are permitted to prune or remove trees on private property.
